Professor Christoforos Ntantogian from the Department of Informatics at Ionian University presented the NITRO project during the Intensive Programme on Information and Communications Security (IPICS 2026) Summer School.
The Summer School took place in Lesvos, Greece, from 6 to 17 July 2026, bringing together undergraduate and postgraduate students, doctoral researchers, academics, and information technology professionals interested in recent developments in information and communications security.
During his presentation, Professor Ntantogian introduced the NITRO project and highlighted its work towards the development of an innovative 5G–IoT cyber range for cybersecurity research, testing, and training. He presented the project’s approach to simulating realistic cyberattack scenarios affecting interconnected 5G networks and Internet of Things devices.
Particular emphasis was placed on NITRO’s research into cascading cyberattacks, which exploit dependencies between interconnected devices, systems, and network components, as well as on the project’s adversarial artificial intelligence attack and defense exercises.
The presentation offered an opportunity to disseminate NITRO’s research activities to an international academic audience and to promote knowledge exchange concerning emerging cybersecurity threats in complex 5G, IoT and artificial intelligence environments.
NITRO’s participation in IPICS 2026 reinforces the project’s commitment to cybersecurity education, research dissemination, and the development of practical training solutions that contribute to more secure and resilient digital infrastructures.
