Addressing the Cybersecurity Skills Gap at the 12th Information Security Conference

March 1, 2025

On February 19, 2025, the 12th Information Security Conference in Athens brought together experts from across the cybersecurity landscape to discuss one of the most pressing challenges in the field: the cybersecurity skills gap.

As part of this important event, a panel discussion explored key issues surrounding workforce shortages and strategies to bridge the cybersecurity talent development gap. The discussion highlighted the growing demand for skilled professionals in cybersecurity, the barriers to entry for new talent, and the importance of collaboration between industry and academia in fostering a well-equipped workforce.

Representing UPRC and the NITRO project, Professor Christos Xenakis had the opportunity to share perspectives on how EU-funded initiatives are actively working to enhance cybersecurity skills and workforce readiness and emphasised the role of initiatives like NITRO in shaping the future of cybersecurity education and professional development across Europe.

The panel discussion was coordinated by Stella Tsitsoula, President of the Hellenic Cybersecurity Institute, who played a key role in facilitating an engaging and insightful conversation on the cybersecurity skills gap and the efforts needed to address it.
