Established in 2008, the Systems Security Laboratory (SSL) at the University of Piraeus is dedicated to studying and teaching digital system security. The team focuses on various scientific areas, including but not limited to the development of cybersecurity applications, conducting forensics investigations and penetration testing, development and deployment of cyber range, delivery of cybersecurity trainings, and detection of cyberattacks using AI/ML techniques. The team’s expertise extends to cybersecurity for AI, cybersecurity economics and cyber-insurance. Last but not least, SSL leads the training and coordination of the Hellenic Cyber Security Team for the European Cyber Security Challenge (ECSC). Finally, the SSL actively participates in various EU-funded (e.g., Horizon, MCSA, Digital, etc.) and Greek-funded research projects.
The key UPRC responsibilities are presented below.
UPRC is the Project Coordinator leading the WP1:Project management. Also, UPRC will lead the T3.2 “5G and IoT Cascading Effects” simulating scenarios to study how a set of compromised IoT devices can be used to launch attacks on other devices or in 5G network infrastructure and vice versa, leading to a domino effect of compromised systems. Also, UPRC will lead the T4.1 “Scoring and feedback mechanism” delivering a novel scoring system for trainees that will provide feedback regarding the technical skills and capabilities of the trainees to defend successfully the system under attack.
